Good afternoon everyone. I am sitting in the NICU waiting room (pumping room) between feedings. The girls are sleeping peacefully right now. At the 11:00 am feeding this morning McKayla nursed amazingly well, once again, I was so excited. This is two days in a row of having a good nursing session with her. She also took a bottle this morning before I got here. At their 2:00 pm feeding today I am going to try nursing McKenzie, hopefully, she will have success again today too. I am starting to feel very good about their achievements. Feeding is really our last hurtle to get past. So, hopefully sucking has just clicked for them and nipple feeding will take off. I would love to get them completely off their feeding tubes. I have a good feeling about everything. I hope at most we only have one more week to go. I don’t know if I can handle this for much longer. One of the hardest things about the NICU process, in my opinion, is not knowing when they will come home. It is so difficult when we don’t have an end date. We feel so lost and out of control. It is a strange feeling. I am used to be in charge of my girls, but in this situation I have to let go and let God.
Balancing the girls at home and our little ones here is exhausting. Once the twins come home I know it will be busy, but at least we are all together. I can’t wait to have my family under one roof.
The girls are already one week old today. It is crazy to think I gave birth to them a week ago. I feel like it has been so much longer. One of things I have noticed is when you have babies in the NICU you really don’t get any time to recover from the birth. I truly feel like I gave birth one day and the next I had to pull it together and become super mom (at least try). I imagine it feels like this for any mom that has had babies in the NICU. I am sure I am not alone.
I remember with my first two girls we would bring them home from the hospital and simply rest for the next few days. My days would consist of sleeping, nursing, changing diapers, etc. This time around I had to get up get dressed and get out the door to see our babies. I truly feel for all the parents out there who have had their babies in the NICU, it is a difficult time.
I really feel like I need a little normalcy in my life, so I thought there is nothing more normal than What I Ate Wednesday. Thank you Jenn for hosting.
Well, today is Wednesday so I thought we would see what I have been eating over these past few days of going back and fourth to the hospital.
Meal # 1 – 8:00
Steve let me sleep in yesterday so I ate late. I made some Greek Yogurt Waffles. Before today I haven’t really been eating much of anything and I know that is not a good thing especially because I am making milk for two, so I decided I need to start my day with a healthy meal to get me going. I feel as though I do so much better on days when I eat a good breakfast.
Meal # 2 – 1:00
We usually go grab something to eat between feeding times. Today, we went to this restaurant right down the street. We don’t go far because we have to be back by 2:00.
I completely forgot to take a picture; my mind has been a mess lately. But I ordered a hamburger with some homemade potato chips. I am a sucker for homemade potato chips. Whenever I see them on the menu I have to try some. They were delicious.
Snack # 1 – 4:00
After we left the hospital we decided to stop and pick up some cupcakes for all of us. We went to one of my favorite cupcake places (one happens to be on the way home), Just Baked. I got the Peanut Butter Chocolate Cupcake and it did not disappoint. I ate half when we got home and the other half after dinner.
Meal # 3 – 6:00
I really wasn’t that hungry after having that cupcake and the burger for lunch. So, I simply had half a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a turkey wrap. I know strange combo, but it has become one of my favorite combinations. 🙂
Dessert – 7:30
I finished the other half of my cupcake.
My blogging plan:
I am thinking that I will make Thursdays my post pregnancy check-in. Every Thursday I will give an update on how I am feeling, what is going on with my body, and even provide a picture as to hoe my body is getting back to normal (whatever normal is these days). But I know I always love seeing how people adjust to life after babies, so I thought I would so the same.
I also have some amazing post pregnancy products that I have been using and loving. Over the next week or so I am going to be telling you all about them.
Here’s a sneak peek at some of the post pregnancy products I will be reviewing for you.
Shrinkx Belly Wrap (not even on the market yet)
And some baby products…

You ARE super mom. Seriously – I can’t imagine having to do the whole NICU thing with two young kids at home. You’re a rockstar. And your mind is allowed to be in a different place right now!
I am so glad the feeding sessions are going well. Considering that those little ones would be GA 35 weeks this week, that’s pretty darn good! I’m also liking to read about the NICU because I figure bracing myself for the possibility that we might end up there is the best thing I can do!
Well, thank you. Right now I wish I had actual super powers. 🙂 I feel like each day I am getting life more and more under control.
Feeding the girls was one of my biggest worries after they were born. I knew I wanted to breastfeed them, but I wasn’t sure how it was going to happen. But everything has worked out perfectly. Yes, I would definitely prepare yourself for the NICU and if your babies don’t need it then that is a wonderful blessing.
I am so excited for you to have your twins, there is truly nothing like it. I can’t explain the feeling of having two babies that are connected!!
Awe the twins have arrived!!!!!! I’m so, so happy for you! It sounds like everything is going well 🙂 How is Isabella handling it so far? I hope well!
I definitely find that I need a good breakfast in the morning. Once I was only able to eat a protein bar for breakfast because I had an early exam, and I was hungry ALL DAY no matter how much I ate! For quick breakfasts, I love Greek yogurt + granola with toast and peanut butter. Overnight oats are also great, I just too often forget to make them the night before!
Thank you. Isabella has been doing really well so far. I don’t think she completely understands that two babies are going to be coming home soon. I think she is going to have some difficulty when we actually bring them home.
I really need to try overnight oats, but like you I am not always together enough to remember to make them. 🙂
I love how you focus your eating for your future children, unlike so many who worry about vanity and weight gain.
Thank you. When I am pregnant my goals are always whatever is best for the baby(ies). 🙂
I’m so glad to hear the girls are doing good. We spent six days in the NICU with our son and it was the scariest and most stressful time of our life. Thank you so much for this blog. I have been scared to death ever since I found out we were expecting twins. It’s nice to read that I am not the only one experiencing the things that I have been experiencing. I look forward to reading more of your blog. Congratulations on your beautiful girls.
Thank you. As nice as all the NICU nurses are, it is a scary and stressful time. Now, that our girls are in there I truly have a new appreciation for anyone who has had babies in the NICU.
I know exactly what you mean about being scared after finding out you are expecting twins; I was terrified. I am so glad I have been able to ease your mind about having twins. I will tell you that there is absolutely nothing like having twins. I don’t know what I would do if we didn’t get pregnant with them. I can’t imagine our lives any other way. Connecting with and helping others is always something I wanted to do achieve through my blog. 🙂
It’s so good to hear the girls are doing well! You so deserve that cupcake and more!
I use the shrink hips and think it helped! I had something similar to the belly wrap but it never fit right so I didn’t use it. Hope it works for you!
Thank you!!
I have been using it and I agree with you. I feel as though it is helping my hips trim down. I also like the stability it gives my hips; after giving birth they hurt a little.
I am so excited for you and your family! Hang in there, soon you will all be home together. You are a an amazing mom – all your girls are so lucky!
I am SO excited to read your reviews of the Shrinx products. I plan to get both the hip and belly shrinker after I give birth in September but it will be nice to know what to expect.
Wishing you all the best this week and crossing my fingers for a super speedy time in the NICU.
Thank you. 🙂 I keep telling myself that in the big picture this is only a short time. I am lucky to have all my girls!!
I am working on writing my reviews right now. I will get them posted this week. A little hint you will want them. Haha 🙂
Thank you. Hopefully, they will be coming home this week.
I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to have your girls all separated right now and I am SO Type A, not having an end date would be driving me bananas!! You sound like you are doing amazingly well though, and you are exactly right, let go, and let God. I know that He is taking care of you and those babies and His timing is perfect 🙂
P.S. My sister uses those Tommy Tippee bottles and we all made fun because they look bigger than the baby’s head, but her baby LOVED them 🙂
It is so hard. Right now I don’t even feel like we are a family. We are all over the place. I can’t wait to have family time with the 6 of us.
That is great to know. I can’t wait to try them with the girls when they get home. I have read all about them and they sound wonderful!!
This is a late congrats but a congrats all the same! Im so happy your girls are doing so well! They are beautiful! I know how hard having the babies in the nicu is and it must be harder with your other 2 at home! Im glad breastfeeding is going well too! I definitely now how hard that can be!! We are just now settling into a good routine but its a lot of work! If your ever up at odd hours and need to talk feel free to email me since im up what feels like all night with our triplets!
oh and i am using the belly bandit but excited to see what you think of yours!
Congrats again!!
Thank you. I might take you up on the email offer. 🙂 This pumping business is getting old quickly, but I won’t give up!!
