I started the 21 Day Fix Extreme workout and nutrition plan on Monday. I decided to kick it off with a bang; for the first two days I followed the Countdown to Competition program. Which means I cut my starches and upped my protein. I follow the 1500-1800 calorie plan so I ate:
- 4 green containers (veggies)
- 7 red containers (protein)
- 1 yellow container (starches)
- 1 blue
- 1 orange
- 2 tsps. (nut butters and oils)
The blue and orange containers are not on the countdown to competition plan, but I just can’t eat my salad without nuts and dressing. So, I swapped a tsp. for the blue and orange container.
Breakfast:
After Upper Fix Extreme workout I ate 1 yellow container of sweet potatoes (1 tsp. of oil) and 8 egg whites (1 red).
Snack:
2 mini meatloaf muffins (1 red) and green beans with carrots (1 green)
Lunch:
A salad with turkey, almonds, walnuts, and a splash of dressing. (1 red, 2 greens, 1, blue, 1 orange)
Snack:
A vanilla protein shake. I simply used water, ice, and a scoop of vanilla protein powder. (1 red)
Dinner:
Baked chicken with green beans and carrots – I cut out the almonds and used half the butter and oil; this cuts down on my containers used for this meal. Following certain meal plans simply requires tweaking things a little. (2 red, 1 green)
Snack:
8 egg whites; exciting I know. But they were very satisfying. I have come to love my egg whites. (1 red)
Treat:
I ended my day with a teaspoon of almond butter. Delicious. When you don’t eat anything sweet all day long this is heaven. (1 tsp.)
I have to say this was not easy. The most difficult part was not being able to eat fruit. Okay, I actually hated that part. But, I loved eating all the veggies and protein. I felt great at the end of Tuesday and I was proud of myself for sticking to it.
I must say after yesterday, today felt as though I was cheating. I was able to eat 3 yellows (starches) and 3 purples (fruit) and 2 more teaspoons. Oh how glorious.
Anyway, I am not sure how often I am going to follow the countdown to completion plan, but I do love how it kick started my nutrition plan. We will see.

- I’d love to hear all about your favorite meal plan. What keeps you on track.
I’m doing the 21 Day Fix Extreme, too! I don’t follow the meal plan 100% but I do my best. I am just maintaining my weight right now before my wedding in one month since my dress is already fitted to where I’m at right now, but afterwards, I plan to try the Countdown to Competition eating plan. I’m excited to hear how it goes for you!
Yes, I go through phases of following it 100%, but I do love how simple it is. Maintaining your weight is the best, but sometimes scary. The countdown to competition plan takes some getting used too but once you do it’s AMAZING!!
