Bed Rest Tuesday

Home / Pregnancy / Bed Rest Tuesday

Happy Tuesday everyone. Well, I have some interesting news for all of you. Sunday night when we got home from our busy day of Easter festivities I felt awful. I was cramping and having contractions like crazy. I was in a fair amount of pain. I figured all of this was simply from our busy weekend and I would go to bed and wake up feeling better. That wasn’t the case. I woke up in the morning still having contractions and pain. So, I decided to call my doctor just to talk to her and get her opinion on everything I was feeling. I figured she would tell me to drink water and rest and the pain is simply the stretching of the uterus. But, that is not what she said. She sent me right to labor and delivery at the hospital. I was completely taken aback and had to get myself together. She wanted to monitor my contractions and have me put on an ivy because she thought I might be dehydrated from the weekend.

I immediately called Steve and my mom. My mom rushed right over and Steve met me at the hospital. My doctor called the hospital so they already knew I was coming and what she wanted to be done. They immediately put me on machines to monitor my contractions and sure enough they were coming pretty consistently. Way too consistent for 20 weeks. They hooked me up to an ivy to see if the contractions were coming partly due to dehydration. The ivy helped calm them down a little but didn’t completely stop them. But the doctor at the hospital felt I would be okay going home, as long as I would be on complete bed rest all day today, Tuesday. I also will be back at the hospital for an ultrasound on Thursday and see my OB on Monday. Oh my!

Today, my mom is over taking care of the girls and I am in bed, resting. It’s sounds much better than it is. I really would rather be with my girls, even though it can be chaos. 🙂

Hi Renee! Prayers for you that bedrest helps the situation! Just rest and thank goodness for your Mom and husband! We found out today that we have to go to Houston to be evaluated for the TTTS and depending on what they say may have to do the laser ablation. Our smaller baby is quite a bit smaller as we saw today and the fluid level hasn’t improved. The perinatologist also didn’t like where the smaller baby’s cord is connected to the placenta…it’s near the end. So there are so many things we have to wait and see about once we go to Houston…I’m guessing that we will have to be there Thurs. You hang in there!!

    • I am so sorry to hear that you have to go to Houston, but at least you will be with the specialists. Our smaller baby’s cord is inserted poorly as well. She actually has marginal cord insertion. Which our doctors told us could be part of the problem.
I am sorry to hear about your fluid level not improving. Hopefully, you will go to Houston and they will give you hope. I know after going to Philly we felt better. We felt as though we at least had a plan. We didn’t feel so helpless.
I will be praying for you are your family. I know you will get through this and I am always hear. I know your emotions have to be all over the place, I know how you feel. Please keep me updated. Good luck, you will be ok. 🙂

I had something similar happen to me on Saturday morning except my contractions were coupled with some minor bleeding. I was 1.5 cm dilated and given 2 bags of IV fluids that stopped the contractions. They could find no cause for the bleeding. I was sent home on bed rest until I see the doctor in two weeks. The bleeding has since stopped. Now I just have minor Braxton hicks contraction every couple hours. The last few days have been scary. I hope everything is going good with your girls 🙂

    • Oh my goodness, I am so sorry you had to go through that. It really is scary when things don’t go as they are supposed to. I am glad everything seems to be under control. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. 🙂
