My favorite way to teach my girls right from wrong is by reinforcing positive behavior. They get stickers for various things such as, helping me without being asked, doing something kind for their sisters, sleeping in past 7 (yes, we threw this one in there and it works), etc. But, they need to do things out of the kindness of their hearts, not because we ask them too. I love the look on their face when I say you can go put a sticker on your chart. All four of them get so excited, the babies simply like stickers and Sophia and Isabella love the fact that they get money.
At the end of the month (sometimes we go two months) we count the stickers and give the girls a coin for each sticker they earned. They love putting them in their piggy banks. Once, they think their banks are full enough we cash them out and go to the toy store.
This past weekend we cleared their charts; the girls love getting money for their piggy banks.
A fresh start is always nice.
The other day at gymnastics I asked McKayla and McKenzie not to take their shoes off, well McKayla of course did. I simply told her she will not be able to get a sticker when we get home because she didn’t listen to Mommy. She immediately put her shoes back on; the power of stickers.
I love focusing on the positive. By doing so we look back at all the good things we have done over the past month instead on the not so great moments.
