Thanksgiving 2013 – Part 2

Home / Motherhood / Family / Thanksgiving 2013 – Part 2

I hope you are have had a wonderful week. I can’t believe Thursday has finally come and gone. I have been counting down the days; Steve is now off until after the New Year. I am so excited have him home with us for the next two weeks; we are going to have some much needed family time.

I owe you a post; Thanksgiving 2013. You can read part 1 here.

It all started early Thursday morning (Thanksgiving day). Surprisingly, everyone slept amazingly well in the hotel and we weren’t woken up until after 7am!! Whoo hoo.

Once, everyone was awake we started getting ready for the day. Getting six of us out the door is a lot of work. We finally got in the car by 8:30 or so.

First stop, my aunts house to have breakfast. Nest stop, my grandparents house for the day. We arrived at my grandparents before everyone arrived; basically we arrived before the chaos began. This is my dad’s side of the family and he has 6 brothers and sisters. So, we celebrated with about 25 people. It is always quite the adventure.

Isabella taking a much needed nap. Even though she insisted she wasn’t sleepy.

We had another much needed night of sleep. The next day we did some black Friday shopping. I know you are probably thinking we must be crazy, but we do this every year and it is usually not very crowded by the time we get to the mall. We don’t actually go shopping until after lunch and by that time all the people have gone home to sleep. 🙂

Waiting for Daddy to get the car.

Oh how are shopping days have changed over the past few years. There was a day when we would go and I would come home with bags and bags of clothes, not anymore. There is simply not enough time to shop for myself. I think of this day as more of a fun day to spend with my family.

After we were done shopping we got everyone into the car and started our adventure home. We left at about 3, so we figured we would be home by 8 at the latest. It typically takes about 4-5 hours. Much to our surprise and dismay about an hour into our trip we came to a complete stop. Oh my!! We quickly found out there had been an accident and according to a fellow truck driver we were going to be sitting here for quite awhile. At that point we took the babies out of their seats to give them a little break. I was able to nurse both of them and change their diapers. We put a movie on for the girls and prayed we wouldn’t be here all night. Well 1.5 hours later we were finally moving again. While sitting there I seriously thought we would never get home, but somehow we got through it and it wasn’t nearly as bad as expected. We look forward to not driving more then an hour or so for the next six months. When we got home I couldn’t imagine getting into a car again with our girls for quite awhile. The best advice I can give you is be prepared for anything. I had enough snacks and fun things for the girls to do that we were able to get through this long car ride in one piece. 🙂 I will tell you I am not a road trip person. I actually don’t like car rides at all. I get carsick very easily, but I will do anything for my family.

Disney World here we come!!! I can’t wait to fill you in on the details of our next trip. We have a big family vacation planned for the end of February. Once we get through the holidays I will go into more details and all the planning that is going into this trip. I will tell you it takes a lot of work to plan such a major trip for a family of six. I will give you one hint; we have a lot of help coming with us. 🙂
