Virginia + Saying Goodbye to Granny

Virginia + Saying Goodbye to Granny

We had such a wonderful family weekend vacation together. We left early Thursday morning for Steve’s family reunion in Virginia and arrived home Saturday night. I must say our 9 hour drive went amazingly well. It couldn’t have been better. Our trip was quick, but wonderful. We loved seeing all of our family and watching our girls play with their cousins was beyond perfect. Family is everything.

How did we live without DVD players? Seriously, these are live savers and make long drives a breeze.

Even though Steve’s Granny passed away a year ago we said our final good-byes to her this passed weekend at the reunion. We said goodbye to an amazing women. I am truly going to miss talking to her about all the craziness of having a lot of children, including a set of twins (Granny had four children close in age and a fifth child 10 years later.). When we would talk she would tell me that I would survive and that I will make it through these early stages stronger then ever. She would tell me that God gave me four daughters because he knew I would be a wonderful mother, he knew I could handle it with grace. I loved her honesty and sincerity. She was never afraid to tell us how she felt. I loved her cards and newspaper clippings. I loved her knowledge and hearing all about her life experiences. I only knew her for just over 10 years, but Granny always made everyone feel welcome immediately. She made everyone feel like family no matter what and that is exactly the way she made me feel from the first moment we met.

Granny would have loved seeing all her family together, especially all her great-grandchildren. It was such a beautiful site. Her legacy will live on forever in the hearts of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

We spent Sunday at Mimi and Papa’s house to see Baby Maizy (and Uncle Fran and Aunt Sarah) before leaving. I just love seeing the way our girls love on their baby cousin. It is so sweet to see their little faces light up by simply mentioning her name.

And they sure can’t wait until Maizy can play with all of them.
