Pregnancy Update

Pregnancy Update

Good afternoon everyone. I am so sorry I have been absent these past couple days. I feel awful I haven’t responded to comments and didn’t post Friday (I had a new recipe), but I will explain, we have had a crazy few days. Thank you so much for all your kind words, I truly love reading them and they always make my day better.

As you know from Thursday’s 32 week pregnancy post I was 2 centimeters dilated, my doctor sent me to get my first shot of steroids. Thursday night I started to have some minor contractions that were coming every 15 minutes or so, but nothing crazy. So, I simply went to bed, I slept awful. Friday morning I woke up and I was cramping and contracting so badly that I could barely walk. Some of them actually bringing tears to my eyes. I called Steve immediately and he told me to call my doctor. Once I talked to my doctor she said to get to the hospital right away because no matter what we want that second steroid shot. Luckily, my parents were already on their way over to my house. Steve and them arrived at about the same time. We left for the hospital not knowing what was going to happen.

Once we arrived at the hospital they hooked the babies and me up to monitors to see what was going on. And sure enough the contractions were coming every 5 minutes. The babies heart rates looked great, that is always a wonderful thing. They watched the contractions stay steady for quite awhile had the doctor check for dilation and I was at a 3. So we were progressing, not what we wanted. They decided to give me an IV to see if dehydration could be causing some of these contractions and at first it looked like it was working and we would get to go home in no time.

However, the contractions started back up to 4-5 minutes aprart. At that time they gave me my second shot of steroids and admitted us to the hospital. They wanted to give me some medicine to stop the contractions at least until 24 hours after the second shot (more effective).

By 3 o’clock we were in our room and they had begun magnesium sulfate. Let me tell you that was awful. It made me feel terrible, but I had to suck it up and do it for our twins. I truly would never wish this upon anyone. At first the medicine was not stopping the contractions. They were still every 4-5 minutes, this lasted about 5 hours and then finally the medicine started working. That evening I was dilated to a 3.5 and 70% effaced. I had to be on the medicine all night and by morning if the contractions were still at bay we might be able to go home.

By 9 o’clock on Saturday morning the contractions were coming 30 minutes or so apart and not painful. So, they stopped the medicine and gave me strict instructions on what I would be able to do. Basically, nothing. I am now on strict bed rest until these little ones arrive. I am only allowed to go to the bathroom. Oh my!

Birthday Party 2013 - bounce house sophia 1

As most of you know Saturday was also our girls joint birthday party. Which I didn’t think I would be able to be attend. When we were told we were going to spend the night on Friday at the hospital the first thing I thought about was my girls and their big day, but of course my mom said she had it under control. I seriously don’t know what I would do without her, she is the most amazing person I have ever met. She does everything for us and never complains. She always says she loves it, but she is working so hard to help us and we are truly blessed. And of course my wonderful dad has been amazing throughout everything as well. Thank you both. You are keeping these girls healthy and happy.

My wonderful mother-in-law is another amazing women we are so blessed to have in our lives. I am so thankful to have her as my mother-on-law. I seriously couldn’t have asked for a better mother-in-law. She came over early Saturday, so her and my mom could decorate and put the entire party together. When Steve and I walked up to the house my breath was taken away. They truly made everything look wonderful and it ran so smoothly. I couldn’t have done it better myself. Thank you to both my mom and mother-in-law, you are two very special people. We are so blessed to have you in our lives.

It was such a hot day. I have never seen Isabella’s hair so curly. 🙂

Birthday Party 2013 - bella

The smiles on my girls’ faces said it all. On Friday when my mom brought them up to see us at the hospital we told them Mommy wouldn’t be able to come to the party (at that time the medicine was not stopping the contractions and no one thought we would be going home anytime soon). I was so heartbroken when I thought I wouldn’t get to be at their party and see their happy little faces.

When I walked through that door Sophia (Isabella was napping) ran up to me and gave me a great big hug and told me she was so happy I was there. Just to see how happy she was to have me home was a blessing I never want to forget.

When Isabella woke up and saw Mommy it was the same reaction. She wanted to snuggle, snuggle, snuggle. So, of course that is what we did.

Isabella and Me eating our food. I seriously can’t get over all the curls, I have never seen her hair like this before.

Birthday Party 2013 - bella and mommy

My girls are truly the best things in my life. I don’t know what I would do without them. They bring me so much love and joy. I know our twins will do the same.

At night when my mom was putting Sophia to bed and they were saying their prayers, Sophia thanked God for bringing Mommy home to her party. She said her favorite present was having Mommy there. And let me tell you they got an awful lot of presents, I feel extra special. I told her I thanked God for bringing me home too. That was that best present Mommy could have ever gotten. I cried when I thought I wouldn’t be at their party. But, I made it and that is seriously one of the greatest gifts I could have ever asked for.

I had my sister on picture duty, so I haven’t gone through the pictures yet, but I will post some highlights tomorrow.

Have a wonderful rest of the weekend. 🙂

So scary!! I’m glad that everything has turned out okay and I’m SO glad that you were able to be there with your girls…Aren’t moms and moms in law the best things ever?! I hope you are taking it easy!

    • It was the highlight of my weekend to be at my girls’ party. They are the best, I don’t know what I would do without them.:) Taking it easy is much easier said then done. All I want to do is get ready for the twins arrival and I can’t, but I know it is best for me to stay off my feet.

I’m glad they were able to slow the contractions down and you were able to be at your girls birthday party. I’ll be praying for you and the little ones.

    • At first we weren’t sure that was going to happen, but we are so blessed. Thank you for your prayers!!

So glad to hear you all are doing okay. I’m SO sorry you had to be put on magnesium. You’re right, that stuff is TERRIBLE. I had to be on it for 24 hours when I went into labor with Hunter, and the side effects are no fun at all. Continuing to pray for you and your sweet family!

    • Thank you so much. We are doing much better and praying they stay in a little longer. We appreciate your prayers. 🙂

    • Thank you that means a lot to us. Taking it easy gets old quickly, but I will do anything for my girls. 🙂

You have done such an awesome job getting the twins this far. So happy they were able to stop your contractions. Just some encouragement – it is SOOO great that you got the steroid shots. I ended up going into PTL last week (pPROM) and I had my twins on Friday night (June 21) at 29w2d. They are doing fantastic! I really think the steroid shots made a huge difference – I had gotten them on Tuesday and Wednesday. Although my boys are teeny tiny, one of them has been on room air since birth (his apgars were 9 & 9!!!) and my other little boy is on a CPAP with slight ventilation and after his progression they are going to start backing it off because his breathing has improved tenfold by 5 days old! I really really didn’t want my babies in NICU either, but such is life and they are in such great hands. I know you don’t want your girls yet, but know that if they do they will be perfect in every way and you won’t wish you had kept them inside any longer 🙂 good luck!

    • Thank you. I am so thrilled to still be pregnant. 🙂 I am still praying for one more week.

Congratulations on your twins! That is wonderful news about your boys. I am so happy they are both doing amazingly well. I pray our girls are as strong and healthy as your boys. I am sure the NICU is tough, but like you said that is the best place for them. Keep me updated. 🙂

I just found your blog! I also have two girls (4 and 2 yrs old) and I’m expecting twin girls (di/di) in August. I’m 31 wks.
I’m so happy you made it to your girls bday party. I hope you can keep the twins in as long as possible. I will keep you and your twins in my thoughts and prayers. I look forward to following your blog.

    • Thank you. Our lives are so much a like; it’s scary. 🙂

We are still hanging in there. I can’t believe we have made it to July. My original goal. Now I want to make it to Thursday; 34 weeks. We will have to see. I think our twins have a mind of their own!!

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers and I will do the same for you. Keep my updated with how the rest of your pregnancy goes.

  7. Hi Renee,

I too just found your blog. I am a 38 year old, full time working mother, and I also have 2 girls (ages 6 and 3) from a previous marriage, got remarried, and I am expecting twin girls late Sept or Oct. I am 21 weeks. My doctor wants me to go down to part time starting at 24 weeks and be on modified bed rest. It is nice to read about another person who is going through something similar. Good luck with your delivery!

    • So excited and yet so busy. 🙂 I will say as much as modified bed rest and bed rest in general are no fun. I really think they helped me get this far. I am so glad we can relate to each other. I know when I first found out we were pregnant with twins it was difficult to find other women who knew what I was going through. Thank you for reading my blog. 🙂

Keep me updated with how your pregnancy continues to go. I am sure everything will be wonderful!!

Hi! I’m 18 weeks along with Mo/Di girls and still wondering when I ever get to stop worrying. Anyway, so glad that bed rest is working! It sounds like you only have three more weeks until you are officially full term! Congratulations! And hang in there!
