24 Weeks Pregnant with Twins

24 weeks

At the ultrasound this week we found out Baby B’s polyhydramnios (excess fluid) is continuing to progress, which is not a good thing, but this helps explain my rapidly growing belly.

Babies are the size of cantaloupes. They are about 10.5 to 11.8 inches long. They weight about 12.7 to 20.8 ounces and everyday they are getting ready to survive in this world.

YAY! Finally a weekly picture of twins in utero. These are fraternal twins, but at least we get to see two babies in the picture. 🙂

How far along? 24 weeks

Weight Gain? I don’t have a number for you again this week. I simply only step on the scale when I go to the doctor’s office. But I know my weight is going up quickly since Baby B’s fluids is increasing.

Workouts? Stretching and some easy arm exercises.

Symptoms? Braxton hicks, acid reflux, back pain, and everything else we feel towards the second half of pregnancy.

Stretch Marks? Not yet. Still using lots of lotion and oils. I know many people say it is heredity, but I didn’t get any with my two girls, so that has to account for something.

I have actually splurged and bought the Mama Mio Tummy Rub. It is much more expensive then I prefer to spend, but when I was wide awake at 3 in the morning I decided to buy it. 🙂 And I must say this stuff is amazing, I don’t know if it will work to keep stretch marks away, but it feels and smells wonderful. My hubby still thinks it’s a lost cause. He thinks I am bound to get a few since I am carrying twins.

Sleep? This last week I have slept much better. I haven’t been up for hours in the middle of the night.

Movement? They are kicking me like crazy. I am getting jabs from all sides.

Milestone: Viability – 24 weeks means that if we end up having to deliver our twins they have a very good chance of being okay. By no means do we want them to come yet, at least we know they will have a fighting chance.

Genders? Identical twin girls.

What I miss: I miss everything having to do with living my regular life.

Labor signs? Contractions all day long, but so far my cervix is doing okay.

Belly button in or out? I think it finally made it’s way out.

What I am looking forward to this week? This weekend is Steve and my sixth year anniversary, so my parents are taking the girls and we are going to enjoy some relaxing “us” time. I am so excited.

Happenings from this past week:

  1. At this weeks ultrasound we found out that Baby B’s amniotic fluid has increased to an 11. Since the girls have TTTS we know that Baby B has had high fluid, but it has increased greatly since first being diagnosed. Before Baby B had mild polyhydramnios now she is in the moderate range. The doctors seem to think her fluid is going to continue to increase in the coming weeks, since it has had a sudden rise in the past two weeks. This means we are almost for sure going to have to have an amnioreduction.
  2. The twins are continuing to develop well, but we still have a lot to worry about before we deliver. We have a long road in front of us until we get to hold our twins.
  3. Starting on Monday we are going to be getting weekly biophysicals on the babies. This is going to give us more information on how they are doing and the health conditions. Wow, this pregnancy is really putting us through the ringer.
  4. Having polyhydramnios means there are many more risks for us. Oh my! This has been one of the most stressful times in our lives.
  5. All of this sudden increase in fluid helps me understand why my belly has grown so quickly and why I am so uncomfortable. It is nice to have some answers to what has been going on, but I wish it didn’t to be this way.

 In the comments below:

  1. During pregnancy did you splurge on anything special for yourself? If so what was it?
  2. Did any of you gain excess weight or carry multiples and not get stretch marks?
  3. I always love hearing any advice. So please share any help hints. 🙂

  1. Im praying for you all! We had a scare with ttts a couple weeks ago with our boys. It’s very scary, but everything will be fine! I also splurged and bought the Mama mio’s! And believe it or not I don’t have stretch marks yet either! I think it is almost impossible not to get them with triplets but you never know! I really think eating healthy and being fit to begin with helps a lot!

    • It is very scary, I would never wish this upon anyone.

I am in love with Mama Mio, it feel so good I could apply it all day. 🙂 I hope you are right about eating healthy and being fit. We will see soon enough.

I love how Mama Mio stuff smells. You deserve it–glad you splurged. Good luck with everything. You probably will indeed get stretchmarks, but think of them as a source of pride for how strong you are right now for your girls 😉 Good luck, you are in my thoughts.

    • Oh my goodness Mama Mio smells amazing and feels wonderful. When I first bought it I said to myself just this once and I will only use it once a day and not very much, but it is too good. I am definitely going to have to buy more. 🙂
As I continue in this pregnancy stretch marks are definitely not my first priority and I know when I hold my girls for the first time nothing else will matter. 🙂
      Thank you so much!!

Hi my name is Felicia and I am 23 years old pregnant with Boy and girl fraternal twins :)….Reading your blog has helped get through a lot thank you :)…. I also have a 5 year old who helps me with everything so I am truly great full that I waited 5 years to have another baby. To be honest I started off with light stretch marks that I never got rid of so they are a little darker now but new ones. I crave poptarts like crazy and I know its not good because of the sugar but I limit myself to 2 a week lol. Being 24 weeks pregnant I gained 10 pounds so far.

    • Congratulations on your pregnancy!! I am so happy I have helped you throughout your journey. It is wonderful to have such a great helper. It is crazy what our bodies crave while we are pregnant. Please keep my updated!!
