20 Weeks Pregnant with Twins

20 Weeks Pregnant with Twins

Oh my goodness, I cannot believe I am already 20 weeks pregnant and we will be meeting these babies in about 16 weeks. I can’t wait to hold our two little girls.

20 weeks pregnant

Babies are the size of bananas. The babies weigh about 10.2 ounces and are about 6.5 inches long. They have working taste buds.

At week 20 there is a picture inside the womb of fraternal twins, at least it’s better then nothing. Our twins are identical so they have less separation between the two of them in the sacs. I will get ultrasound picture scanned ASAP I promise. They are always hugging and side by side; both their heads are down and next to each other. They are absolutely adorable. It is like they know they need each other.

How far along? 20 weeks

Weight Gain? At the doctors on Monday I was up 17 pounds. Which seems crazy to me, but they keep telling me it is perfect for a twin pregnancy. With Sophia and Isabella I only gained 20-25 pounds so I am totally out of my realm. But I am going to embrace it. 🙂

Workouts? I am still not supposed to exercise. So I have simply been doing some prenatal stretches.

Symptoms? I truly don’t know how women carrying multiples make it to 36 weeks. I already feel like I am going to burst.

Stretch Marks? None yet. Still doing all my lotions and oils. But I don’t know if I am going to keep them away for much longer. Steve keeps telling me to prepare myself for stretch marks. He doesn’t want me to be sad when they show up, but no matter what I will be sad. 🙁

Sleep? Right now I hate sleep. I am so uncomfortable and my sleep has been awful.

Movement? Baby B is kicking my in the ribs and I can feel Baby A (the smaller of the two) is lightly kicking me in the side. I can’t believe I am already getting kicked in the ribs. Oh my!

Milestones: For a typical 40 week pregnancy this would be the mid-point, but my doctor won’t let me go past 37 weeks. So, we will celebrate another week closer to healthy babies.

Genders? Two little girls.

What I miss: I miss exercising and not stressing about everything I am doing that might hurt the babies.

Food cravings? Not much these days.

Food aversions? Nothing really, but I have been getting a lot of acid reflex lately.

Labor signs? More and more contractions. Sometimes, I get a little worried but the doctors don’t seem to be concerned.

Belly button in or out? In.

What I am looking forward to this week? Celebrating Easter with our girls. I love any holiday that puts smiles on their faces. Sophia is so excited to go Easter egg hunting. When we were decorating for Easter, which we just did the week, she said, “I love holidays”. She is so sweet.

Random Thoughts from this Past Week:

  1. What are we going to name our twins. I truly don’t have any names that are really clicking yet. And I really want to start calling them by their names. I hate calling them Baby A and Baby B.
  2. I hope our twins continue to stay healthy. I can’t imagine getting bad news at an ultrasounds to come.
  3. Can I really make it through this pregnancy. I know I have to, but right now it seems impossible. I am already miserable.
  4. How big is my belly going to get? Can I actually stretch that much?
  5. Protein and water is on my mind all the time.
  6. What will it be like to raise four daughters? Is my husband going to miss out on not having a son? I know he loves his girls and is so excited for our twins to join our family, but someday will he wish he had a son?

In the comments below:

  1. I would love to hear any words of wisdom?
  2. Anyone have these feelings during the pregnancy?
  3. I am still searching for names. So I will always take recommendations. Thanks!

I am still so excited that your babies are doing so well! I only have one boy, so I can’t imagine what it must feel like to have two babies kicking inside you. It truly is amazing how much our bodies can actually stretch, isn’t it?! Hope everything continues to go well for you 🙂

I’m not having twins, but one thing that I’ve learned through my pregnancy is that our bodies are SO smart! If we treat them well and honor them, they do just what they need to. Keep up the great work, and I’m sure your body and those babies will continue thrive. 🙂

    • I know you are right and I have trust that my body knows what to do, but sometimes it is hard to believe. Pregnancy and babies are such miracles. Thank you!

Your little Hunter should be coming any day now and I am so excited for you. You will love every moment and be an amazing mom. 🙂

Lookin’ good! I definitely can relate to the “I already feel like I’m gonna pop” feeling 🙂 carrying twins is definitely an 8th wonder of the world!

  7. I am so glad you’re doing well! I like that both your girls names end in an “A” sound. What about two more names that share that, too! Louisa, Amelia, Olivia ???

    • Thank you. Those names are very pretty. I think I would like to stick with ending in “A”, but I don’t know if we are going to be able to. Our latest thing we want to try is have the twin names begin with the same letter.

Congratulations on your twin girls! I am 20 weeks pregnant with twin boys and went on line looking for some info because I feel so tight and big already! I wanted to see if it was normal:) so thanks! I feel right now just like I did at about 30 weeks pregnant with my first son. My husband and I are thrilled with the news if twins, but I also sometimes wonder what having 3 boys will be like, and if we will ever miss having a girl! I hope your girls are happy and healthy! God bless.

    • Thank you. Congratulations to you too. I am so excited for you. This whole experience is so surreal. It is truly unlike anything I have even done. I still can’t believe I have two babies in my belly and that they will make their way into the world in no time. You are on an amazing journey!!

You are on the opposite side of me at first I wondered what it would be like not to have a son, but as I carry these girls each and every day I can’t imagine having a boy at this point. I am so thrilled to be welcoming these two girls into our lives and I can’t imagine it any other way. 🙂

I will keep you in my thoughts an prayers as you continue on this wonderful journey. Keep me updated!!!

I’m currently 20 weeks pregnant with boy/girl twins who are due October 31st. We already have one girl and one boy. We were so excited to find out we were having another girl and boy. Everything aches so bad right now, I sometimes wonder if I will make it to 37 weeks. Everything I read on the Internet scares me to death. There aren’t any sites that actually make a mother carrying multiples feel more at ease. Do you have any advice or suggestions? Congratulations on your girls!

    • Congratulations on your twins!!

I know exactly what you mean about all the negativity on the internet when it comes to twin pregnancies. I try to stay positive, but I am not going to lie it is uncomfortable, but you can do it. I still have to tell myself that everyday.

The best advice I can give is to try to eat sensible and gain the recommended amount of weight. The extra weight is what makes carrying two babies so tough. Our bodies do adjust and I am actually more comfortable now at almost 31 weeks than I was at 20. Also don’t forget to rest throughout the day, ask for help, and teach you two older kids that Mommy needs rest time. My girls and I play a lot of games where I can lay down. Such as, puzzles, barbies, reading, etc. 🙂 I hope that helped, just remember it will all be worth it when you hold those beautiful babies in your arms!

I am 20 weeks and 3 day and yesterday my boyfriend and I found out we are having a boy and a girl. We are super excited and so is our 9.5 month old son. These will be our last children even though we are young because we only wanted 3 kids. We will be naming the girl Paisley Jayne and the boy Parker Allan. I can not wait to meet them. I love reading your blog because it helps me know what someone else was feeling when pregnant with twins. Thank you for Making this blog.
